Overview

In Grade 8, children stand at the threshold of high school and young adulthood, ready to master advanced emotional intelligence and life skills that will guide them through life's most important decisions! Through Self-Awareness, students will deepen their understanding of emotion introduction and the triggers of different emotions, cultivate a growth mindset with optimism, build self-confidence and self-motivation to pursue their goals, explore "The Recipe of Me" by discovering their strengths and areas for growthpersonal interests, and strengths and weaknesses to answer "Who Am I?", harness the power of positive quotes and positive self-talk, understand the divided heart when torn between choices, recognize feelings as warnings by linking emotions to behaviour, embrace self-love and self-compassion, and continue building body positivity in a world of unrealistic standards. In Self-Management, children will learn strategies for managing rejection and insults gracefully, use emotions to help resolve conflict, develop being proactive as well as reactive, master visualization breathing for calm and focus, build resilience to bounce back from setbacks, find a quiet place inside and picture what they want, and understand the power of practice and perseverance for achieving mastery. Social Awareness expands dramatically as students practice listening without judgementactive listeningthinking before talking, and being a good listener, develop leadership qualities, learn critical internet safety skills, master the art of apologizing sincerely, understand different cultures and backgrounds while embracing inclusion, courageously stand up against bullying and discrimination through strategies like dealing with the bully and the bullying report, navigate managing peer pressure while making positive social choices through understanding peer pressure, learn techniques for resolving conflicts peacefully, give and receive genuine compliments, strengthen learning teamwork and cooperation, and identify tricky behaviours that manipulate relationships. Through Relationship Skills, students will honestly examine "Do you have your phone or does your phone have you?", practice looking at things in a different way through shifting perspectives, distinguish between assertive, aggressive, and non-assertive communication, master effective communication skills both verbal and non-verbal, learn the importance of recognizing and respecting boundaries, and develop skills for communicating feelings effectively. Finally, Responsible Decision-Making teaches understanding the difference between right and wrong, develops goal setting and perseverance, guides setting priorities and making responsible life choices, strengthens ethical decision-making and integrity, introduces "My D3 – Dear Decision Diary" for tracking choices and outcomes, builds courage for standing up for oneself and others in challenging situations, and provides crucial awareness about the dangers of online gambling. By the end of Grade 8, children will possess the emotional maturity, communication mastery, ethical foundation, and self-management tools needed to navigate high school, relationships, and life's increasingly complex challenges with wisdom, confidence, and integrity!
